We have it working on our 8703e's from Verizon, so don't give up. Also on the 7103e's, although some of te earlier units needed a software update first.
Did you set the MIME types in HTTPD.CNF? I remember the same errors when we tried to deploy the RIM Enterprise Messenger from an IIS server, and had to set the MIME types for CODs and JADs before it would deploy over-the-air.
